Was given an estimate for over $1000 for brakes. For such a price and an old car I asked if they thought it was worth putting in so much money or if I should just buy a new one. They took my money. 2 days later my dash board was lit up. I asked them to check it out. They asked for another $180 to just look at the car. I brought it across the street and gave them $150 for the same diagnostics and they listened to me as a customer and driver. They told me not to put anymore money into the car. So here I am over 1300 down and in need of a new car. I feel incredibly stupid for trusting Portland automotive to listen to me as a customer. They clearly either don't know how to correctly assess a cars damage or they do know and take peoples money anyway. 1.) Hometown garage is cheaper 2.) Hometown garage actually listens to the customers! Very disappointing! I had recommended them highly before this.
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We truly understand how frustrating it feels to invest in vehicle repairs and then have a new issue arise shortly after. When you brought your vehicle in, our team performed a full inspection and diagnostic scan. At that time, there were no codes that came back during the diagnostics test and the only concern identified was the condition of the brakes. We understand that your vehicle is older and heard your concerns about whether or not it was worth it. We provided as much information about the brake issues so that you could make the best decision for you, your safety, and your vehicle. You approved the brake work, and we completed it as requested. Unfortunately, the check engine light was a separate concern, and not related to the previous brake service, we did explain that a new diagnostic would be needed, which does come with a separate fee. You declined that service, and we certainly respect your decision to seek a second opinion. Please know that we never want any customer to feel unheard or undervalued. Our goal is to be transparent and thorough with every recommendation, based on the information available at the time of inspection. If you have any further questions or would like to discuss anything with us directly, we’re here and happy to talk.
